Kenwood Sonoma Series Zinfandel, Sonoma, United States

From the pouring of the 2007 Kenwood Sonoma Series Zinfandel my interest was piqued. The wine didn't have the uniform darkness that wine makers seem to concoct with all reds released onto the market. Some caramel brown was mixed in colour spectrum for a little vino-diversity. I smelled a mix of earth, alcohol and fruit compote. The wine opened up round like a glazed berry tartlet. Cline Syrah 2007, Sonoma County, USA

Syrah has adapted itself to many different climates and geography and Cline produces a Sonoma County spin on grape worthy of note. The label reads it explodes with fresh blueberries and black cherry jammy fruit, and as much that may be true, the real outstanding accomplishment of this wine is that it does push the sweetness envelope, without compromising what you expect from a Syrah.  Whether it be a Rhône or an Australian offering, Syrah is a dark coloured, at times robust varietal.  With Read more [...]
