While doing wine and music matches it is fun when the song pops into my mind before the first drop drips down the wine drain at the back of my mouth. The Tuscan Fèlsina Berardenga 2009 Chianti Classico is Black Velvet by Alanah Myles. No ifs, ands or butts.
The nose tickles with cherry and ripe tomato. The gulp brings in very strong and typical Chianti flavours, but this wine is all about feel and balance. Ms, Myles had an international smash with Black Velvet, not because the song was the best written song ever, but her interpretation and character really cam through and that expression and authenticity were the keys to her “overnight” success. Her interpretation balanced her bipolar attraction: innocence, youth countered by breathy, almost husky voiced confidence. The wine is written in the same key, but played out on instruments like freshness, tannins, smooth mouthfeel. This is a great interpretation of Chianti Classico – accessible and exotic all at once. Good Stuff.
