Trapiche Broquel Cabernet Franc 2009, Mendoza, Argentina

The Trapiche Broaquel Cabernet Franc carries lots of gusto, and manages to keep itself quite smooth.  A difficult balancing act to say the least. Cabernet Franc is known to have great tannic strength, and this example is no exception.

Smelling of red fruit, spice and some green stem the 2009 Broquel Cabernet Franc stays  try to form of typical Cab Francs.  Into the gulp the taste packed a little bit more wood/smoke than did the nose.  Along with the fruit spice and coffee joined the chorus.  Above all, I really liked the silky smooth mouth fee – this isn’t common with Cabernet Francs under 20$.  Good stuff.

Musical Match: With so many bakery descriptions in the wine, I am think of a very smooth French jazz vocalist named Dominque Dalcan.  You gotta here his over the top version of “the Look of Love”, by the way.  But for this 2009 Trapiche Broquel Cabernet Franc I am going with “Paratonnerre” sung in his native French.  The arrangements are big, his voice deep and structure, but yet everything comes out quite smooth.  Great piece of music.

Special thanks to the Wines of Argentina for providing me transportation, great lodging, amazing food and access to the wonderful wine and winemakers of Mendoza and Cafayate during a promotional tour of Argentina for 10 days in July 2011. This wine was sampled during that promotional tour.
