De Sangre…. of Blood you say? No animals were harmed in making the 2008 Luigi Bosca De Sangre. However, significant amounts of 2008′s harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah had more than their hopes crushed!
This blend showed fruit, and caramel toffee on the nose. A great start for the wine, both youthful and serious at the same time.
The gulp was a wide open berry and dark chocolate wave with a dry undertow. Drinkability was a big part of the conversation I had with the people from Luigi Bosca, and this blend gets it right.
Musical Match: As the Luigi Bosca Bodgega celebrates turning ten years young, the wine shows youth and a serious nature all at once. They acutal winery that they purchased is quite old, and I guess that carries through to the new wines. A singer with incredible youthful exuberance and wisdom rolled into one big ball is Serena Ryder. Listen to her blend rock, folk and pop into a sound she can call her own, Little Bit of Red (just like the Sangre!)
Special thanks to the Wines of Argentina for providing me transportation, great lodging, amazing food and access to the wonderful wine and winemakers of Mendoza and Cafayate during a promotional tour of Argentina for 10 days in July 2011. This wine was sampled during that promotional tour.
