The 2010 Siete Vacas Cabernet Sauvignon is another hint that Malbec isn’t the only red wine worth your money from Argentina. The wine shows typical Cabernet Sauvignon descriptors that smell nice and ripe with a classy tobacco leaf envelope.
Into the gulp the focus of this wine is on the fruit. The wine isn’t particularly complex, but keeps things refreshingly straight forward. The fruit is round and ripe and the acid is there to keep this wine very drinkable. The tannins soft as well so you don’t get much of a fight as you drink it.
Musical Match: Emmy Lou Harris sings Goodnight Old World. With an arrangement that cannot be described as complex, her singing is straight forward and beautiful. A bit older than she was when she broke onto the scene, her ripe voice is still strong. The loose arrangement here also mirrors wines humble soft tannins that let that ripe fruit float around instead of marching it in military precision. With the xylophone, she updates her folksy sound, while staying true to her roots. The same can be said for the wine, it is clearly a Cabernet Sauvignon – but with a Siete Vacas signature.
Special thanks to the Wines of Argentina for providing me transportation, great lodging, amazing food and access to the wonderful wine and winemakers of Mendoza and Cafayate during a promotional tour of Argentina for 10 days in July 2011. This wine was sampled during that promotional tour.
