Bodega El Porvenir produces a wide range of wines, and the Amauta range is their discovery range: quality wines priced so average wine buyers can easily bring home a bottle and give the wines of El Porvenir a try. The red spectrum of the Amauta consists of three blends and a single varietal Syrah. Amauta II is blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. (look ma, no Malbec!)
On the nose you get darker berries, blueberry and blackberry dominate. You also get some green vine scent.
I was very, if not extremely, pleased with the silky mouthfeel on this wine. Something that you usually have to pay more money to get. The berry flavours from the smell picked up some raspberry in a fresh round wine that finished with a tiny green and even some tasteful black pepper notes. This is great red blend that doesn’t cost a fortune and shows you everything you want in a Cabernet/Merlot blend.
Musical Match: Here is a rocking singer/songwriter that should be discovered as well, Mr. Sam Roberts. His songs are round and smooth, but full bodied and fresh sounding. Brother Down is a blend of rock with soulful smoother side. Check them both out!
Special thanks to the Wines of Argentina for providing me transportation, great lodging, amazing food and access to the wonderful wine and winemakers of Mendoza and Cafayaté during a promotional tour of Argentina for 10 days in July 2011. This wine was sampled during that promotional tour.
