This is a very well made wine. The 2008 Saintsbury Carneros Chardonnay doesn’t break any new ground as far as tastes and textures go, but it pushes all the buttons you would want from a Napa Chard.
They control the smoke scent well, and mix it in nicely with some baked apple. The gulp is really satisfying. Balanced fruit, citrus, apple and pear work around with some nice acid.
The tasting notes are pretty generic, but like good pop music the gold is in the production. They get their grapes from Carneros which in my experience produces consistently fine Chardonnay – but along with consistency you tend to get the same tasting notes, which is logical right?
Musical Match: Janet Jackson’s Together Again. Using classic sounds, familiar beats and her own signature voice Janet Jackson didn’t revolutionize pop music with this tune, she just did it remarkably well. The wine shares a similar success, they sourced the grapes from a great area – and put together a wine that is crisp, clear and dry where others can get lost in a syrupy mess. Good stuff.
