The Finca Flichman Gestos Cabernet Sauvignon is an enigma, it is a single varietal wine and a blend at the same time. A 50/50product of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes coming from two very different altitudes, this a very comforting and funky wine at the same time. Fifty percent of the grapes came from a vineyard 11 000 meters above sea-level and the other half from valley farmed grapes from under 700 meters above sea-level.
Tastewise, it has everything going that you could possibly imagine from a Cabernet Sauvignon. Big and brash, but also delicate in the details and tart jammy fruit. The entire idea of the Gestos line-up is to match the same grapes together, but grown at drastically different altitudes. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a great introduction to this new philosphy. Negociants pooling wines from producers and bottling them as regional wine is nothing new, but to create purposeful, sharp contrasts and succeed in producing a coherent wine is a real exploit.
The end result is a wine that rolls into your mouth jammy-berry on the front end, with a balanced acid finish that is strong and long on home stretch. The wine has the comfort of grandma’s kitchen coupled a good measure of macho.
Musical match: Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson’s Relator. With the comfort of a chorus essentially stolen borrowed from the Beatles, the aura of miss Johansson, the musicality of the very accomplished Pete Yorn, you get a very fun and original take on a simple pop song. Ditto for this wine.
Leave a comment and me know what wine you would match with this music.
