Bodega Norton Barrel Select Malbec 2008, Luján de Cuyo, Argentina

Bodega Norton produces some of the most recognizable Argentinian Malbecs on the international market. The 2008 Barrel Select offering is true to form. Smelling like a set of screeching oak brake pads during an emergency stop, this husky wine has a strong cherry focus on top of a shot of berries rolling into a tobacco and chocolate. The end showed some vegetable notes that exposed some carrot flavour. I can’t recall ever tasting a finish like that, as much as this is proudly an Argentinian styled Malbec. With the strong tannins and the smoked oak, this wine is a slow drinker.

Musical Match: The smoldering blues of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Mid to fast tempo “All your Love” has smokey guitar licks provided by Eric Clapton and machismo that doesn’t go over the top.

Leave a comment and me know what wine you would match with this music.
