The 2007 Cairanne Pavillon des Courtisanes comes in a very elegant bottle displaying the signature of winemaker Jean-Luc Colombo and featuring an elegant watercolour sketch of three ladies. The wine is also very elegant, but carries an intense darker side. Velvety, sumptuous berries cascade through this wine. No hint of any alcohol taste. Made with Syrah and Grenache, this medium+ bodied offering is a serious, yet inviting wine.
For Music pairing, the Arcade Fire’s Ready to Start grabs that intensity, driven to a beat set by drummer Régine Chassagne that adds a layer of cerebral sophistication to a great rocking tune. The Arcade Fire have made an art out marrying pop tunes that are anchored with a measure of gravity, more so than with simple heavyness. Just as this wine can be considered a more than average medium to full bodied Rhône, it tells its story in the juicy, thick accompanying arrangements – which is a compliment to the winemaker.
