New Harbor Sauvignon Blanc 2009, Marlborough, New Zealand

New Zealand has been very successful at breathing life into Sauvignon Blanc with names like Oyster Bay familiar to many. New Harbor Vineyards from Marlborough released a lip smacking grapefruit with peach on backing vocals 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Lean and energetic it would match perfectly a hot pot of mussels and salty french fries on the patio of a country restaurant.

I have paired it with John Mayer’s “Why Georgia.” Mayer is a young and talented blues guitarist who just happens to be gifted with the looks to make many a lady swoon. His musical smarts are the root of his success, and his prodigious skills have landed him accolades from high atop the blues mountain. Most people would associate a Sauvignon Blanc with a female voice, but New Harbor brings an undiluted attitude to the wine. Watch the video for Why Georgia and try to spot the occasional male in the audience checking out what chord he is playing on his guitar and the throngs of twenty-something ladies wondering if they might get Johnnie to share a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with them.

Leave a comment and me know what wine you would match with this music.
