Wine producer Michele Satta from Tuscany, Italy produces a wide range of wines. Relying on some traditional DOC blends and branching out with non DOC conforming products – he really adopts the principle of variety being the spice of life. One of the best value wines he offers is his Toscana IGT Cavaliere. I sampled the 2004 version and this 100% Sangiovese in the company of vineyard big-wig Fabio Motta. He talked about the taste and mentioned Cocoa – I tasted truffle, the chocolate variety of course, and smooth leather. The Tannins were present, but smooth. I wouldn’t say it was an eye-popper, but certainly an eye-opener. By the time I asked Fabio to suggest a musical accompaniment to his wine, I had already made my choice: The Beatles “I Want To Hold Your Hand” – specifically the great opening guitar riff. It has the punch, the pop and the confidence of this great wine… without any pomp or circumstance. Fabio independently offered Beethoven’s ninth symphony… which famously features a “Ba BA ba BOOM” not to dissimilar to that written by Mrs. Lennon and McCartney. Certain that Mr. Motta and I were on the same page musically, my spirits are buoyed by the fact there is a relationship between music and wine – thanks to Fabio for embracing the connection and for the great wine of course!
Let me know what wine you would match with this music.
